When it comes to the latest in interior style and home décor
you'd be hard pushed to find a more elegant showpiece item of furniture
than then modern modular sofa, perhaps the single most innovate step
forward in home furniture of the 20th century period. With their
elegantly proportioned dimensions, chic modern style and unique
sectional design, modular sofas are becoming exceptional popular with
leading designers and increasingly sought after by the general public.
But just how expensive is the typical modular sofa and should you be
wary of paying more for a sectional sofa than a conventional design?
Comparing
average prices in the marketplace it should quickly become obvious that
modular sofas do tend to be considerably more expensive than
conventional one-piece designs. There are a few reasons why this is the
case. Firstly, as each section of a modular sofa is built with its own
frame, upholstery and cover, the actual production process for creating
modular sofas is far more time consuming and thus expensive than it is
to bulk manufacture single unit sofas. Secondly, as sectional sofas are
relatively new to the market they tend to be primarily manufactured by
small artisan suppliers and sold by luxury retailers rather than
mass-market suppliers.
Furthermore, while conventional sofas and
corner units are sold at a single price, modular sofas are priced on a
section by section basis which can make the costs add up considerably if
you are looking to create a large sofa suite from numerous different
sections. Even if you are opting for a smaller sofa you will still
typically need three to four sections to really achieve the look and tap
into the versatility that sectional sofas can bring, so you may have
your heart set on a particular style only to learn later down that the
line that it falls just outside of your budget. Nothing is more
frustrating than making this type of mistake after searching high and
low for the perfect sofa.
However, while sectional sofas are on
the whole more expensive to purchase, that doesn't mean that you can't
pick up a good deal if you shop around. Indeed, if you browse the
internet to compare prices you may stumble across a number of flash
sales sites that are able to offer significant discounts on a range of
best-selling designs on a discreet basis. This can be a superb way to
pick up a great product at a heavily discounted rate, particularly if
you have a specific model in mind which you have already tested out in
the showroom. So don't write off the possibility of buying a sectional
sofa on the cheap just because the headline rates are outside of your
price range.
Even if you are paying more for a modular sofa, don't
make the mistake of seeing value solely in terms of price. Due to their
complex nature, you'll often find that modular sofas tend to be
produced in home markets as they require specialist skills which cannot
easily be outsourced to a lower cost markets. So while modular sofas
almost certain to be more expensive than other models you may well find
that they offer far superior value for money when compared side by side
with sofas and corner sofas that have been manufactured overseas.
